    Your Baby turns 100

The July issue of Your Baby magazine is the 100th issue of this popular parenting magazine. At 224 pages and a print run of 45 000, it's the biggest issue ever, and the publishers, Alchemy Publishing, are supporting it with in-store activity, poster advertising, and other promotions.

There are special competitions and promotions, including the Great Big Birthday Competition, with prizes of top brands of baby goods worth over R180 000. Two posters detailing baby's development from birth to 3 years will be very popular with moms. Each issue contains vouchers worth over R200, redeemable on leading baby goods. And there are special editorial features like the Top 100 Parenting Tips.

Your Baby also held a major charity fund raising campaign around that issue. Editor Kate Sidley explains, "Child Welfare helps thousands of orphaned, ill, abused, neglected, vulnerable or impoverished children every year, through projects and organisations nationwide. We have always admired and respected the work they do, and as part of our birthday celebrations, we have raised R100 000 for this worthy organisation."

The money was raised in two ways: Your Baby allocated 16 pages in the July issue to the Great Big Birthday Competition. Instead of paying for the space, advertisers were asked to donate R5000 each to the charity fund, and to donate R10 000 in prizes for readers to win. And, for every copy of the July issue sold, R1 of the cover price will go to Child Welfare.

To celebrate the birthday, 100 children from Child Welfare's affiliates around Gauteng were invited to a birthday party at the Johannesburg Zoo, where Your Baby handed over a cheque for R100 000 to Child Welfare representatives.
