Call to enter Marketing Excellence Awards

Nominations are now open for the third annual Sunday Times Business Times Marketing Excellence Awards, which recognise successful marketers and marketing companies for the key role they play in the industry. Marketing practitioners from all industry sectors are invited to nominate candidates that have excelled in the areas of industry, business, and individual accomplishment before entries close on 30 September 2008.

The four major categories to be judged this year are Marketing Person of the Year, Marketing Company of the Year, Brand Campaign of the Year and Sponsorship Campaign of the Year. Category changes this year include splitting the Marketing Organisation of the Year in two, an award for a business with an annual marketing budget of R10 million per year and a second for one with a budget of less than R10 million per year.

According to Mauro Black, senior manager of business development, Avusa Media, submissions will undergo a rigorous and fair judging process by the council sub committees representing South Africa's finest marketing and business talent, led once again by marketing guru and chairperson Dr Ivan May in the quest to find the cream of South Africa's marketing industry crop.

Black said that since its inception in 2006, the Marketing Council has further refined the entry process to ensure it attracts as many entries as possible. Projects and campaigns that ran from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008 are eligible for entry, as well as those sponsorship campaigns that will run until December. The awards ceremony will be held on 17 February 2009 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, where the winners will be announced.
