Cape Town's Beat kickstarts the season with the Heart Squad Celebrity Soccer Day

On Saturday, the 1st of October 2011, the Heart Squad Celebrity Soccer Day will provide fun and interactive activities for families during the school holidays. Aptly named because South African soccer legends, musicians and radio DJs will attend to support the campaign, it is a great way to get the ball rolling in creating awareness of this year's Heart Squad soccer clinics. They begin in November and are part of Heart 104.9FM's continued dedication to post-World Cup soccer development in Cape Town.
Originally founded by Heart 104.9FM in 2008 and developed by sports anchor Nick Feinberg, the clinics run from November to January annually and are aimed at raising the standard of soccer in Cape Town and South Africa. Feinberg believes the region to be boundless in talent at the grass roots level but acknowledges that this potential is not always fully realised. The station is developing sporting opportunity in the community and will hopefully also scout some talented youngsters in the process.

The Celebrity Soccer Day will take place between 10:00 and 16:00 at Rygersdal Football Club in Rondebosch. Boys and girls from the ages of 6 to 12 will get a chance to show their skills during the training clinic. Professional players will share football advice and life skills with the kids. Kids will get the opportunity to collect autographs and take photographs with PSL players. Everyone can participate in and enjoy five-a-side social soccer matches and penalty shoot-outs. Matches between the station's DJs, local celebrities, legends and PSL players will commence at 12:30.

The event is for the whole family and even toddlers are going to be given the chance to join in and show off their skills. Local musicians will entertain and create a festive mood with musical performances in what promises to be a good day for soccer.

Both the soccer clinics and the Celebrity Soccer Day are free of charge. The latter provides a sneak preview of what will happen during the trials from November to January. There will be refreshments, snacks and drinks on sale and the station looks forward to a celebration of 'The Beautiful Game'.

Keep your dial locked onto Heart 104.9FM 24 hours a day, Monday to Sunday, or visit www.1049.fm.
