Heart 104.9FM Breakfast Show Sports Presenter Nick Feinberg has won the SAB Programme of the Year Award in the radio category at the 30th SAB Sports Journalist of the Year Awards.
The aim of the awards, which celebrated its 30th anniversary at a ceremony on the 6th of September in Johannesburg, is to reinforce the importance of the media's role in South Africa's sporting development and to recognise and reward talent across all sporting media disciplines.
SAB rewarded Feinberg for his creative and evocative radio package titled Beautiful Game on the FIFA World Cup and the forging of a South African identity that could stand tall in the world. Nick says gratefully, "The SAB Sports Journalist Awards are the most prestigious in terms of recognition, and every sports journalist wants this. And being in the company of the who's who in the industry made the occasion that much more special."
"I would like to thank Heart 104.9FM for believing in me and the Beautiful Game and I would like to thank Carducci for turning an old man into a decent looking gent," says Nick.
Feinberg has a love for the beautiful game and also heads up Heart 104.9FM's social responsibility programme the Heart Squad. The Heart 104.9FM Heart Squad is a development programme using football as a skills development base. This initiative equips boys and girls from 6 years old to 16 years old with life skills on and off the soccer field and aims to provide as many kids as possible with a fantastic football environment complete with professional soccer coaches and a safe venue.
"Having been involved in football in Cape Town for more than 14 years, it is quite apparent that there is a huge need to put more time into training and development structures in order to discover and nurture the great talent that South Africa has to offer," says Feinberg.
Catch the Beautiful Game with Nick Feinberg on Heart 104.9FM every Friday between 1.15pm - 1.30pm and on Mondays from 12.30pm to 1pm during the Clarence Ford Show. For your daily sports bulletin with Nick Feinberg tune into the Phat Joe Breakfast Show weekdays between 6am and 9am.
