The three finalists, Debbie Damant, Jovanne Meyer and Nelisa Sinuka, hold their breath before the announcement.
“Thank-you Cape Town for all your votes,” was all that Damant could manage to say when the announcement was made by Managing Director, Gavin Meiring. “This was an amazing campaign and I'd do it over and over again,” she adds.
Damant's victory didn't come without hard work. She followed the Obama route in canvassing for votes from her social networks through Facebook and various other online social networking portals. “To my campaign manager that I worked to the bone, your contribution to my presidential election has been invaluable."
She thanked her family, friends and acquaintances near and far for their votes. “You know that I will have loads of fun celebrating what Cape Town has to offer as I am very passionate about this City.”
Pride for the City of Cape Town was evident in listener feedback that flooded the station over the last two months. The campaign was not only about what Cape Town had to offer but it included fun ways of how to go about enjoying privileges such as pristine beaches, the natural beauty of hiking trails, fine restaurants and so much more.

“I believe in the initiative and pledged my allegiance to the campaign from the start. Promoting the best that Cape Town has to offer is no sweat for me,” was the response from one of the candidates when they asked why they had entered the campaign.
The President will be expected to keep smiling and have fun at a series of Heart 104.9FM's events as a VIP guest. Some of these events will include the John Legend and Keri Hilson in concert, Queen of Hearts ladies' night and the Toy Run. Her attendance at these events will be voluntary, but the treatment that she will receive will be in a manner befitting her status as President! Fortunately, being passionate about Cape Town is second nature to Damant. “I often visit restaurants, squeeze in a beach walk or two, and touch base with nature either on Table Mountain or by visiting one of our spectacular botanical gardens,” says Damant.
After a semi recovery from the shock of it all, Damant was asked what her first task will be as president. Her response to this was “to go out and party as hard as I can.”
Damant won herself a Fossil watch and BlackBerry touch phone. A BMW has been made available for her disposal during her reign of fun. She will hold her title as President of the Republic of Cape Town until 31 December 2009.
