1. Paper is precious
This one’s obvious. Strive toward being a paperless office by choosing digital whenever possible. (This also means holding off on the Post-It notes, as cute as they are). If you must print something, make sure it’s double-sided and single-spaced. And don’t forget paper towels, too! Simply placing pretty cloth hand towels in your office bathrooms can drastically reduce the amount of paper going into the bin. 2. Lighten up
Toss open those blinds! Having a sunny office is the best way to save electricity and lift your co-workers’ moods. For the days when you need artificial lighting, switch your light bulbs to something more energy-efficient, like compact fluorescent bulbs. LED lamps are another great alternative, lasting up to 10 times as long as both incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescents. You can also look into installing motion-activated light switches, which will automatically turn off when no one needs them (because let’s be honest, we all forget to switch off the light sometimes). 3. Green your machines
It’s true: plugged-in machines can still suck energy when not in use! Don’t forget to unplug, and look into buying machines that can multi-task for you. (Think: copying, printing, scanning galore!) The fewer office machines you have, the less energy you’ll use, and the more money you’ll save. 4. Watch your waste
At the Greenpop office, we promote a zero-waste culture by keeping compost and recycling bins in a central location. Worried about the smell? Sprinkle a bit of bokashi
over your compost, and you won’t even know it’s there.
Having plates, mugs, forks and spoons available to employees also helps to cut back on waste. You won’t be throwing out any disposable cutlery at company events, and employees can take their own mugs when they go to buy a coffee. The Cape Town coffee shops can always tell Greenpop employees by their mugs! 5. Breathe fresh air
What’s the best brand of air freshener? (Hint: they’re green!) Fill your office with plants and open your windows, and you’ll breathe fresh air all day without the help of any products or air conditioning. When you do need to buy cleaning products, make sure they don’t include harmful chemicals - better for you and the planet. 6. Plant a tree
Finally, there’s only so much we can do surrounded by four walls. Greenpop is encouraging businesses to get up close and personal with the planet we share! So roll up your sleeves, gather your team, and say thank you to the earth in the best possible way: plant a tree
Bring your business or team of 10+ on a planting day! Along with their countless environmental benefits, trees uplift communities by improving pride of place, increasing property value, and offering beauty and shade. Not only will you be transforming an under-green community, but you’ll have a great team-building experience as well. About Greenpop
