Shireen Mahomed of Glen Lauriston, Pretoria, has won a dream trip to Rome as the grand prize in a competition hosted by Careers24, STA Travel and Sony Movies South Africa ahead of the South African release of the Men in Black™: International movie in June. The competition had weekly prizes consisting of movie tickets and exclusive hampers to be won as well as the grand prize of a trip for two to one of the locations featured in the new movie, a choice between London, Paris, Rome or Morocco.

Shireen, who has been happily working for the Law Society of South Africa’s Law Journal for 20 years, loves travelling. “I have been fortunate enough to have done some work overseas while visiting family. In fact, I was in Loch Lomond Scotland with my husband when the organisers first tried to contact me to let me know that I have won this competition.”

She admitted that she enters a lot of competitions, but still could not believe her luck when she heard that she had won an overseas trip for two to a city of her choice. “I was actually looking at options for a trip to Italy which I was hoping to arrange for the end of this year, so it was perfect timing to have the option of choosing Rome as the destination city for the trip I have won.”

It was not easy to choose a partner to accompany her on this trip. “My husband, brother, son and daughter would all love to go, but I have decided to take my sister, Naseema, with me. She lives in Durban and has not been as fortunate as I have been to be able to afford to travel and I have promised her that I would take her on a trip one day if the opportunity presented itself.”

Shireen says her formal working career is nearing an end, but she hopes that her “travelling career” will take off after her retirement. “I would like to teach English overseas, specifically to business people,” she said, adding that she had already completed the course in teaching English to foreigners.

Shaun Clarke of Careers24 says: “We are delighted to know that Shireen is so excited about her upcoming trip. Being registered on Careers24 has already paid off for her in one way. We hope that she will continue to find inspiration and new opportunities with our help along the way. We wish her all the best for her trip and future plans.”
