Any responsible Editor knows that commentary on court cases while they are still proceeding, can be highly prejudicial to the State’s case, as well as the defendant – who, no matter public sentiment is in this regard, is entitled to a fair trial.
Is this just a continuation of the gungho journalism sanctioned by our media owners these days, who seem to forget they have accountability; or just the sloppy, sensationalist journalism we’ve come to expect from the gutter press in South Africa?
Either way, they give all media a bad name.
