IPS Africa hosts training for journalists

Inter Press Service (IPS) Africa is hosting a training workshop for journalists and plans to produce a conference newspaper in Maputo, Mozambique, where approximately two hundred government officials, professors, farmers and researchers from southern Africa are meeting next week to discuss agriculture and economic development.

IPS Africa has partnered with the Food Agriculture Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network to train 20 selected journalists, prior to its Annual Regional Stakeholders Dialogue, on how to report on issues of agriculture, food security, climate change and economic development in Africa. The team of reporters and editors will generate news and analysis on a daily basis, which will be available for publication by media.

IPS Africa also plans to produce an online and printed Terraviva conference newspaper, to provide an independent communication platform for delegates at the 2009 dialogue. The past archives of IPS TerraViva are available at http://ipsterraviva.net.

FANRPAN will convene its dialogue during 1 - 4 September 2009, entitled, "True Contribution of Agriculture to Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction in Southern African countries". The meeting aims to show stakeholders through evidence-based research, the potential contribution agriculture can make to the economies of Southern Africa.
