    A24 Media launches stills library

A24 Media announced on Thursday, 12 March, 2009, the launch of its online stills collection, which contains what it claims to be “some of the best photographic collections in Africa”, digitised for the first time.

The collection charts the past 50 years of the continent's history and features previously unreleased work from photographers Mohamed Amin and Duncan Willetts. The collection is diverse in content, featuring images ranging from wildlife, culture, sports, and portraits from the Masai of Kenya, to images of the late President John F. Kennedy.

The collection has taken three years to digitise and aims to provide a platform to journalists and organisations wishing to showcase their work.

Speaking at the launch was friend and colleague of the late Mo Amin, and veteran photographer, Duncan Willetts, A24 Media's editorial director, Photography. Willetts said: "The collection as it now stands contains a wealth of images from the continent that have been well preserved and will now be accessible for generation after generation. I believe Mo would have been pleased to see his work brought to life."

The stills collection also contains photo essays on a multimedia platform, which blend stills, text and sound.

A24 Media was conceived in order to enable Africans to tell their stories to the world from an African perspective, and also serves as an online archive, collating and storing African stories and making them accessible globally, in order to preserve the rich heritage of a continent.
