Congo seeks fuel ties with Namibia

Congolese President Denis Sassou-Nguesso has said that Namibia could help expand his country's oil refining capabilities and could begin importing the fuel.

"If Namibia is willing, we could together expand the existing oil refinery at Pointe Noire," Congo's second largest city, Sassou-N'Guesso told his Namibian counterpart Hifikepunye Pohamba at the start of a two-day state visit.

"Or we could build a bigger refinery so that both countries will benefit from refined fuel.

It is only a short route from Pointe Noire to the Namibian port of Walvis Bay," he added.
