New data out on Monday, 9 May 2011, commissioned by advertising and marketing services group WPP has found that emerging markets account for 19 of the top 100 valuable brands, while Apple superseded Google's four-year term at the top.

The 5th Millward Brown Optimor BrandZ Top 100 Most valuable brands, released late last week, indicates that strong brands have proved their resilience to recession, as they are worth over US$2 trillion, showing a 40% growth over five years, 4% over last year and outperforming the stock.
The third annual BrandZ Ranking issued yesterday, 21 April 2008, proves that brands are becoming ever more valuable and powerful in driving business growth. Companies that own brands in the BrandZ Top 100 have significantly outperformed the stock market when compared to the S&P 500. Valued at $86.1 billion, Google tops ranking for second consecutive year.
