Thanks Wandile for the article on Zim maize production...the challenge as always in Zim is the political posturing of the leadership there. A lot is said with little activity on the ground. The opaqueness and all the corruption associated with the distribution of the so called Command Agriculture programme inputs will defeat the purpose of intention. Last year, the last week of November, i witnessed the frustration of a smallholder farmer in the area where i have a plot, he was being sent from pillar to post to access the command agriculture inputs until he gave up. He ended up selling one of his sick cows to buy a few inputs for himself....but as you can see the planting season had already left him. It is sad that we continue to see the same things happening season in season out and expecting different results. |
