Paladin Africa provides entertainment for miners

Multichoice Malawi has enlivened the bushes where Paladin Africa has its Kayelekera Uranium mine by installing 250 television units. The mine found in northern Malawi is situated 40km west of Karonga Town settlement where over 3,000 workers had little entertainment.

Paladin Africa invested over US$150,000 to have the DStv units installed at the mining camp and are now paying a monthly subscription of US$2500.

Multichoice Malawi regional manager for central and northern regions Titania Katenga Kaunda said apart from selling many SD PVRS last year they have also installed 250 rooms; which is like a hotel set up.

“It is not easy for a corporate institution like Paladin to do this kind of business with us,” acknowledged Katenga Kaunda who travelled to the mining district to express Multichoice's token of appreciation to the mining company.

Ashems Songwe who is head of Paladin Africa's Information and Communication Technology Services, a division within the company's commercial and administration department, told Bizcommunity that they had no choice but to go for it.

“Our operations are in the most rural areas and by the nature of that location we tend to have a limited type of life and having Multichoice giving us these services over the past three to four years has been relieving,” he said.
