    Getaway enters TV arena

The Getaway brand moves to the small screen this month when the TV series "Getaway to Africa" launches on M-Net on 29 January 2009. The 13-part series will look at travel in southern Africa, taking in the people and cultures of South Africa and its neighbouring countries as it explores the game parks, forests, deserts, mountain retreats and beaches of the region.

"We are recognised as an authority on travel in Africa, so a TV series was a natural addition to our mix," commented publisher Jacqueline Lahoud. "Getaway has a strong print presence, a dynamic digital dimension and a popular and successful expo. This is one more initiative that sees us grow the brand in the multi-faceted media arena."

Recognising the broad local and international appeal of Southern Africa as a travel destination, particularly ahead of the 2010 World Soccer Cup, the series was filmed in high definition to enhance its marketability to overseas channels, said Jacqueline, who added that Getaway would look at selling the series under licence in Europe and the USA.

Getaway teamed up with Cooked in Africa Films, producers of the popular series of that name that flighted on BBC Food to produce "Getaway to Africa." Justin Bonello, will be the face of the travel series.

Getaway magazine will highlight background information on the shoots and environmental concerns that arose, while the website will feature behind-the-scenes footage, bloopers, additional photos and blogs, as well as track the route and provide a forum for environmental solutions.

Getaway to Africa is sponsored by Tiger Wheel & Tyre, Schick and Energizer. It will flight on M-Net's channel 101 on Thursdays at 17:00 (starting on 29 January), with repeats on Tuesdays at 10:00, and M-Net HD channel 170 on Mondays at 19:00 (starting on 2 February), with repeats on Thursdays at 17:00.
