President Hosni Mubarak was asked to "intercede in the case of Ahmed Hassan Bassyouni, a young man who was sentenced to six months in prison by a military court" on 29 November 2010, it said in an statement received in Cairo.
The sentence was handed down to Bassyouni "just for encouraging his fellow Egyptian Internet users to enlist in the Egyptian armed forces," said the Paris-based media watchdog.
RSF said it made the appeal together with the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) and the Association for Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE) in the letter dated 24 December.
