    Book for Sanlam Community Press Awards, training seminar

    The annual Sanlam Community Press Awards, preceded by the Sanlam Forum National training seminar, will be held on Friday, 18 September 2009, at the Kgotla Room, Indaba Hotel outside Fourways, Johannesburg. Community newspaper publishers, managers, journalists and photographers from all over South Africa and Namibia (Walvis Bay and Swakopmund) are expected to attend.

    The Sanlam Community Press Awards are described as the ultimate platform where the community press can showcase itself. Judging has already taken place, with one of the judges commenting during the final judging, “If you want to know what is happening in South Africa, read the community press!”

    The awards will be preceded by the Sanlam Forum National training seminar, with several guest speakers including feedback from the judges on writing and photography and a talk on consumer journalism by Wendy Knowler, consumer editor for Independent Newspapers (her column for The Star is nationally syndicated). Also once Fair Lady's consumer editor, Knowler has a regular talk show on radio on this important aspect of journalism.

    It is also expected that this category, consumer journalism, will be introduced to the competition next year.
