Register by 1 October to join the 22 October intake of this course.
What is the focus of this workshop?
This practical interactive workshop is designed for teams who want to transform how they write, structure, and test documents. Whether you create policies, compliance documents, customer communication, HR documents, or internal content, this workshop gives you the tools to create writing that is clear, usable, and aligned with ISO plain language standards.
You will work with real examples, guided exercises, and interactive activities that help you understand how people use documents—and how to write in a way that truly serves readers.
On the first morning, we focus on mindset and document thinking (an introduction to plain language, purpose, users, and early redesign exercises). The second morning focuses on structure, tone, and testing (organisation, headings, tone, testing methods, practical application).
Live sessions take place online on MS Teams, where resources and materials are shared.
What will this workshop help you achieve?
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
• understand what plain language is and why it matters in organisational communication;
• rethink documents by defining purpose, user tasks, and organisational requirements;
• create clear, logical structures with strong headings, navigation cues, and professional
warmth;
• improve tone and clarity using ISO aligned plain language techniques;
• test your documents using low cost, practical usability testing methods;
• apply principles immediately through before and after examples and hands on redesign
activities.
Who should attend?
• teams responsible for compliance, legal, HR, policies, or customer communication
• anyone wanting to improve clarity, efficiency, and user experience
• organisations looking to align communication with ISO standards
• professionals who want documents that are easier to understand and more effective
