Agence France-Presse (AFP) has named British journalist Phil Chetwynd as its global news director in replacement of Michèle Léridon.
The appointment is the first time a foreign national has been named for the agency's top editorial position.
Chetwynd, who joined the agency in 1996, is currently AFP's editor-in-chief.
