Triomf selected for 2009 FESPACO competition

Director and scriptwriter, Michael Raeburn's Triomf has been selected for the FESPACO 2009 - the Pan-African Film and TV Festival official competition. FESPACO, one of Africa's largest film festival established in 1969, showcases African cinema and television.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of FESPACO, which takes place from 28 February - 7 March 2009 in Burkina Faso. The theme for FESPACO 2009 is "African Cinema: Tourism and Cultural Heritage". The official competition is exclusively reserved for African and Diaspora Films in the genre of feature films, short films and documentaries.

The film was awarded "Best South African Film 2008" at the Durban International Film Festival, and debuted internationally at Cannes Film Festival. It will be released progressively throughout South Africa from 20 February in selected Nu-Metro and independent cinemas.

"Triomf exposes a series of universal truths. The dirty secrets of capitalism, of racism, of manipulative politics, of the human heart are mirrored in the secrets of one family, whose disastrous disintegration reminds us that a nation's history is written by individuals," said Junaid Ahmed at the awards ceremony of the Durban International Film Festival.
