[Highway Africa 2012] MTN leads Africa's media development
This year will be the 10th time that MTN will be sponsoring Africa's media conference, now in its 16th year. The three-day event is expected to attract over 600 delegates, consisting of journalists, heads of media houses and corporate representatives from across the continent.
Themed "Africa Rising? How the media frame the continent's geopolitics, trade and economic growth", MTN is looking forward to healthy and robust deliberations between media practitioners on how the media can drive Africa's socio economic agenda.
"Sponsoring the conference gives MTN the opportunity to promote dialogue amongst media on the continent and provide valuable insights on how the media is continually striving to assert the use of ICT to benefit some of our most disadvantaged communities on the continent," says Rich Mkhondo, executive for corporate affairs at MTN Group.
Mkhondo will moderate the session on "How media innovation is reshaping our field".
"This year, the response has been overwhelming. Over 600 delegates have confirmed attendance. This is the highest number we've had in the past 16 years. It is through the support of sponsors like MTN that the conference has grown by leaps and bounds. There is no doubt that MTN is taking a leadership role in promoting media development in the continent," says Chris Kabwato, Director of Highway Africa.
