    African Writers' Day Conference kicks off this week

    The second Africa Century International African Writers Conference will take place from 7-9 November 2013 at Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg.

    US-based academic Nwando Achebe, Professors Pitika Ntuli and Mbulelo Mzamane, former PAC MP, Dr Motshoko Pheko and literary historian Andrew Martin are some of the speakers at the conference.

    "We have lined up a stellar list of academics from Africa and the African Diaspora, and we are pleased the conference is exciting South Africans from various walks of life," said project director and spokesperson Raks Morakabe Seakhoa.

    The Africa Century International African Writers Conference marks the 22nd anniversary of African Writers' Day, (7 November) declared by the Organisation of African Unity, now the African Union.

    The conference will culminate with the announcement of the 2013 South African Literary Awards winners at a gala dinner on 9 November.
