    Quark acquires hyperpublishing technology

DENVER: Quark announced earlier this week that it has acquired the assets and technology of GLUON, a New Jersey-based software company that develops tools for the corporate and publishing industries. The acquisition includes GLUON's HyperPublishing System suite of products which Quark plans to integrate into its software.

The new publishing software will enable enterprise-scale web-to-print, variable data printing (VDP), and advertising automation solutions.

Quark and GLUON have partnered previously integrating QuarkXPress Server with GLUON's HyperPublishing System to create automated print and multichannel solutions for corporate marketing departments, printers, advertising agencies, publishers, designers, and governmental agencies. The acquisition of GLUON's HyperPublishing System allows Quark to provide its customers the technology for creating customised, design-rich documents that can be changed or created on-demand.

“Acquiring GLUON's HyperPublishing System provides us the unique opportunity to bring together the production and distribution sides of marketing communication and publishing businesses,” said Nick Howard, director of Enterprise Products for Quark. “We now offer unparalleled dynamic publishing capabilities that will help customers manage brand control, create on-demand print-ready materials, connect with customers through personalised advertising, and more.”

As part of the acquisition, Quark also gains GLUON's XTensions and Plug-ins that add efficiencies and capabilities to QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator. XTensions and Plug-ins will continue to be developed by the GLUON team.
