D&AD Annual 2007 now available

LONDON: Judging finished months ago, the winners have been announced, the parties are over, but the celebration continues. Launched this week, the D&AD Annual 2007 immortalises the best creative work of the year in its pages, covering 29 categories of advertising and design. It also includes this year's Yellow and Black Pencil Award winners.

South Africa had four Yellow Pencils this year, plus three student commendations and three student entries going “in-book”.

“I'm proud that this is the first D&AD Annual designed outside the UK,' says D&AD president Tony Davidson. “There is amazing creative talent all over the world and having leading creatives from various disciplines take part in the creation of this Annual made it a fun project. I'd personally like to thank Fabrica, especially Paolo and Renzo for all their time and effort.”

The creative team at Fabrica, Benetton's communication research centre, consists of:

Concept and creative direction: Renzo di Renzo, Carlos Casas, Paolo Palma.

    Art direction: Paolo Palma

    Graphic designer: Monica Gautier

This year's theme of global creativity led Fabrica to create The Flag Project. Leading lights in advertising and design were sent a D&AD flag with the challenge to do something – anything – with it. A selection of the images are displayed in the dividing pages of the book and an exhibition of the over 100 photographs submitted will be available to view online at www.dandad.org/flag from 4 September 2007.

Two collections will also be on show in the UK this week at The Getty Images Gallery in London and at Urbis in Manchester.

“We are really happy that so many people have answered our request to take part in The Flag Project,' says Di Renzo. “We tried to select images for the Annual that gave a general overview of the work sent in, but it was almost impossible as each picture stands alone as a personal view and means of expression. They are nevertheless all part of a republic of creativity and the yellow flag is its symbol.”

The Annual is available to D&AD members. The only way to receive a free copy of the 2007 book is to join before 31 December 2007 (contact ).
