African journalists honoured - 17 Oct 2016

By Louise Marsland

CNN and Multichoice honoured Africa's top journalists last week at the CNN Multichoice African Journalist 2016 awards. There were a record number of entries this year: 1,637 from 38 countries in Africa. Winning media stories included those of hope, terror, conservation, exploitation, rejuvenation, survival, corruption and the human story of Africa.
The overall winners, Asha Ahmed Mwilu and Rashid Idi, from Kenya Television Network, won for their story 'Terror Crossing' which is an in-depth investigative documentary about security at the Kenya-Somali border in Mandera county. It aired on KTN's 'The Lead' investigative progamme.
Tribute was paid by the judges to the winners for their exceptional journalism and for tackling issues that, in some cases, would never have seen the light of day, were it not for the journalists in question and their media houses across the continent. Congrats to all the winners!
Also leading in the news this past week was a focus on how data can help marketers be innovative; being a "disruptor" business; and how to plan African cities of the future based on Africa's needs and not according to a European template.

Have a great week!
