New Uber Eats feature simplifies sending food to loved ones

Uber Eats has introduced a new feature that makes it easier to send food to others. From 6 May, customers will be able to send meals and treats to friends and family and share the status of delivery with a simple tracking link.

In the past, Uber Eats customers were able to order and send food to a friend, but it required the sender to track the delivery and provide updates to the receiver.

With Uber Eats shareable, real-time tracking system, the person on the other side of the order can watch as their order arrives, and be ready to accept it upon delivery.

The feature launches conveniently ahead of Mother's May in South Africa, but the company states it will be a phased rollout, and won't be available to all customers immediately.

Ailyssa Pretorius, general manager of Uber Eats in South Africa explains, “We’re using our platform to help ensure families can still celebrate the moments that matter. That could be sending your mom’s favourite chocolates her way or even a pizza to brighten someone's day.

"You can cover both using the Uber Eats app and selecting their house as the delivery address.”

“We hope you’ll share your love of food with the special people in your life, wherever they may be,” concludes Pretorius.
