Lead SA is a 94.7 Highveld Stereo, Pretoria News and The Star initiative, which aims to mobilise South Africans to look within and be the change they want to see. The initiative is the first in a series of initiatives planned by the organisation to help promote education and support South African youth.
"If we intend to improve this nation, there is no doubt that we need to focus on developing our youth," said 94.7 Highveld Stereo station manager, Ravi Naidoo. "With a solid foundation and a firm set of values, I know the success of this country will be immeasurable and, with our partners Pick n Pay, we aim to encourage learners to make a difference in any way they can."
During the live broadcast, learners will have the opportunity to discuss issues such as bullying and respect for parents, teachers and peers, commitment to education, honesty, charity, selflessness and the acceptance of differences. They will also get the opportunity to take part in painting a large mural depicting these issues, which will be housed at the school as a constant reminder to lead South Africa, regardless of age.
"Pick n Pay is excited to be part of the Lead SA initiative and to be in position to get schools around the country involved as well," said Angela Kay, marketing manager at Pick n Pay. "The youth of today will set the tone for tomorrow, which is why it is so important for us to try and make them aware of, not only what their rights are as children and as learners, but also to encourage them to stand up for those rights and inspire others to do the same."
"I've received many emails from learners and teachers that list the remarkable things they are doing within their communities," said Breakfast Xpress host, Darren Simpson. "It's amazing to see that there are schools out there going above and beyond their requirements and making a difference to the lives of children every day. I would like to challenge all schools to get involved and do the same."
