    Recruitment agencies - to use or not to use?

    Recruitment agencies - to use or not to use?

    Many communications companies today, be it an ad agency, design company, publisher, digital or other specialist consultancy, are reluctant to use recruitment agencies - in most cases due to the cost factor.

    This may not prove as cost-effective as imagined, as, if no dedicated HR person or talent acquisition resource is on board, the time involved in endless interviewing (of often unsuitable people who reply to ads) is seriously unprofitable and takes away from interviewer's operational effectiveness (especially in the case of creatives) and causes a lot of “down time” which costs out as pretty expensive in terms of lack of productivity.

    In many cases the wrong individual is hired often due to shortage of time in interviewing – as we are all aware this causes its own problems... Labour law issues, down time, non-productivity and often friction.

    In addition, if department heads, etc. do not have sufficient time to interview (which often happens), vital posts may take time and far too long to fill.

    If there is a select shortlist - provided by an expert recruiter, such as ourselves - the process would be speeded up and more cost-effective.

    At the end of the day, a good professional recruiter who takes the trouble to understand your business is a most valuable resource. Also, as an additional recourse for the HR heads and talent acquisition execs, if needed.

    This said, it is imperative that you deal with a recruiter who has in-depth up-to-date knowledge of most aspects of communications and who keeps up to date (difficult though this may be) with technological and software advances in all digital communication aspects, plus things like CRM methodology, direct mail and database management - this cannot be underestimated and is vitally important.
