    Celpay to host mobile payments conference in Zambia

    Mobile payments company, Celpay Zambia will be hosting a mobile banking conference in Zambia. The two-day conference will be held in Lusaka from 16 - 17 September 2009. Participants will include government, regulators, major technology companies, mobile network operators and major corporates from the SADC region.

    Fully endorsed by the Zambian government, the high-level conference plans to highlight new technologies, strategies and approaches to mobile banking.

    “We are very excited to host a meeting that will bring together leading industry stakeholders to share experiences and insights on mobile banking”, said Celpay International BV chief executive officer, Lazarus Muchenje.

    The participating countries include Tanzania, South Africa, DRC, Zimbabwe and Zambia and Namibia.

    Speakers featured at the conference will represent the following organisations from the SADC region - Celpay International BV, Zain, MTN Zambia, Net One, the Communications Authority of Zambia, the Bank of Zambia, Multichoice, Stanbic Bank (Zambia), Mobile Transactions Zambia Ltd, Finmark Trust, Fundamo (South Africa), Uniswitch (Zimbabwe) and others.

    “The conference will provide a wonderful new opportunity for industry players to learn and debate a wide spectrum of issues including regulatory, technological and supply issues. With the continuing boom in the cellphone market, the SADC region needs to prepare ourselves for the next wave of opportunities,” says Muchenje.

    He concludes: “As an industry leader, we are committed to fostering an environment that will promote the success of the mobile banking industry.”
