Mark Tomlinson
Mark started his digital career in 1997, navigating the likes of Netscape and Mosaic. Part of a small group of digital entrepreneurs in South Africa, he went on to start his first agency in 1999. Six years later, he co-founded Hellocomputer, an agency he built to be "more human", putting people at the very center of everything they do....
Show profile Hide profileWith this thinking, Hellocomputer has gone on to produce many award winning pieces; like beer dispensers that can read minds, a website constructed on a 2km cycling track and a badger that actually tweeted and took selfies
With a desire to use the power of advertising to do good, Mark recently turned a local charity into a self-sustaining media agency, Social Feed, so that they could earn an income on a monthly basis.
In his career, Mark has held a key position in the industry. Aside from award recognition, he has judged at the Loeries (the South African creative benchmark awards), the Cannes Lions and the coveted FWAs, served as a committee member of The Bookmark Awards and has sat on the DMMA Digital Creative Circle Judging panel. His work has also been published in publications like the Taschen's Web Navigation.
A big believer in collaboration, Mark and Hellocomputer has, in the past, joined forces with international creative mavericks, including CP+B, Sid Lee, Mother NYC and R/GA. It is this forward thinking that helped with the acquisition of Hellocomputer by the international media group Interpublic (IPG) in 2012.
Now a little older (and wiser), Mark balances work life with home life; raising two kids, building a Nike shoe collection and cooking Michelin-star dinners for his wife.
