Youth invasion of Algoa FM on June 16

Grade 11 and 12 learners from Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City will be taking over the airwaves on Algoa FM on Monday, June 16.
A total of 14 pupils from schools across the Metro and three from East London will be working shifts at the station from sunrise to sunset to mark Youth Day.

They have been trained as presenters, news readers and producers by Algoa FM programme manager, Baydu Adams.

Two pupils at a time will be co-presenting on the Daron Mann Breakfast (6am to 9am); the Mid-Morning Show with Lance Du Plessis (9-12); Mio and Queenie for the lunch time show (12-3); The Fast Lane with Wayne Hart and Lauren Mungur; and the Border Drive with Gordon Graham (3-7).

There will also be two young news readers during the day, and all the shows will be steered by a young producer, according to Adams.

"That means we will have a team of three learners at a time either on air or producing, as well as the news readers," he says.

The newbie broadcasters have arranged their own interviews, and will ensure that the shows all include items of interest to the youth.

"Our training sessions have helped them to get their creative juices flowing in order to make the most of the power of radio as the theatre of the mind," says Adams.
