University launches community radio

The Ethiopian Civil Service University yesterday launched 100.5 FM Civil Service Community Radio Station with range of 10 km radius at a cost of over 2.5 million Birr.

Presenting the 2008 overall plan to the General Assembly, Station General Manager Eden Bushera said that the community radio will serve as an as agent to bridge cooperation gap between the government and the community at large in such away that raising socioeconomic as well as political issues so as to address problems of maladministration, malpractice,rent seeking and corruption.

"The station is targeting residential areas in Yeka and Bole Sub-cities of Addis Ababa administration with a limited range of 10 k/m radius operating for 5 hours a day," she added.

She noted that 62 per cent coverage would focus on socio-economic and political aspects of the general public and the remaining 38 percent on the university and the radio station vision,goals and objectives respectively disseminating survey and research based tips of information and entertaining spacial programmes to bring about positive social change.

During the meeting, board members were elected from the University, the Ministry of Public Service and Human Resource Development ,and Yeka Sub-city Administration as chairman,deputy chairman and secretary respectively.
