Cybernest data centre is world-class

Telkom Cybernest was awarded the 2011 South African Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence in Technology Innovation Award, following an in-depth analysis of the data centre market.

Frost & Sullivan said in a statement that it has recognised Cybernest for its commitment to innovation and to the environment. As recipient of the Green Excellence in Technology Innovation Award, Cybernest is acknowledged for its exceptionally environment-friendly technology profile and business commitment as well as its demonstration of environmental accountability.

Cybernest launched its custom-built data centre in Cape Town in November 2009. The centre requirements are on par with international standards in terms of capacity, availability and energy efficiency. "Cybernest has delivered a data centre facility that is on par with the top 10% of energy efficient data centres in the world," says Frost & Sullivan's ICT business unit leader for Africa, Birgitta Cederstrom.

"In addition to this ... [t]hey have also exceeded customer expectations with regards to cost savings, while reducing their carbon footprint," Cederstrom said. The data centre makes use of ozone-friendly gases. Lead batteries have been eliminated and energy efficient technologies are used. "The free air cooling and hot aisle, cold aisle designed containment is the first in South Africa," comments Cederstrom. "It results in savings of 4.7 million kWh per annum, which is currently the highest energy savings within the market."
