Milestone... Where getting a really good night's sleep isn't a millstone

As markets around the world shrink with each daily announcement of another fiscal crisis, hotels, especially at the top end, have to be ever more competitive.
    The frontage is impressive.

An email from Red Carnation Hotels stood out from the rest. Like Starwood Hotels' promise of the Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Shower, Red Carnation's London Milestone Hotel is guaranteeing a good night sleep.

Cleverly, they've partnered with sleep and performance specialist, former tennis pro Tej Samani, combining, they claim, London's most comfortable beds, with his tried-and-tested techniques, to ensure shuteye.

The Sound Sleep Experience package includes a one-hour tailored, private consultation with Samani, who is currently recognised as being one of the top five Neuro-Stratology practitioners in the world. Tej's former career as a professional tennis player has meant that since a young age he has been exposed to best practice related to sleep, stress and performance. Following nearly a decade's research, he has spent the last five years as a cognitive behavioural specialist, delivering individual programmes and seminars, focusing on performance and the science and psychology of a good night's sleep.

The first requirement for a good night's sleep is a comfortable bed - this seems to fit the bill.

The Milestone, a 56-roomed Kensington, London property that overlooks Kensington Palace, is always rated highly in Conde Nast Traveller and Travel + Leisure magazines but to further distinguish themselves there are offering guests the use of an Alpha Sleep Pod, which will help even the most hardened insomniac enter their dream world within minutes. Developed by Alpha Matrix Technologies, of which Samani is a co-founder, the pod is a matchbox-sized device with earphones.

    Slumber made easy

The team has carefully analysed the brainwave patterns of individuals who can sleep well, against those who cannot. The audio frequency has been matched to the same frequency as a healthy sleeper to make falling asleep, getting back to sleep if you wake in the middle of the night and taking an energising power nap possible for those who struggle.

And on those cool days, you can settle down in the conservatory.

In addition, the package includes a relaxing treatment in The Milestone's exclusive spa, as well as a healthy, energising breakfast and top ten tips at turndown to give the best chance of slumber.

Good sleep doesn't come cheap, and South Africans should be prepared to pay about R10 736 per room per night. When you consider that the real reason executives demand lie-flat seats on planes and forego the Champs and fine-dining is so that they can sleep, the added value in this Sound Sleep Experience package should leave you dreaming.
