Heart 104.9FM's Phat Joe selected to host the 17th annual MTN South African Music Awards

One of the country's most controversial on-air personalities hosted the glamourous MTN South African Music Awards (or SAMA's) at Montecasino in Johannesburg on Saturday 21 May. Heart 104.9FM Breakfast Show DJ Phat Joe is known for his sharp wit, mischievous sense of humour and 'tell it like it is' outspoken approach.
"The fact that the country's most prestigious music awards show has bestowed this honour upon a DJ from a Cape Town-based radio station elevates our profile and extends the station's presence beyond the borders of Cape Town," says Gavin Meiring, Heart 104.9FM Managing Director.

In line with objectives to make the Annual MTN South African Music Awards bigger and better year on year, The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) has continuously been pushing boundaries to ensure that the event remains the primary and most important all-inclusive marketing platform for the South African recording industry and its artists and musicians.

Phat Joe has more than fourteen years of broadcasting experience behind him. He was one of the pioneering DJs at Yfm who contributed to the success of the station; he launched 'Phat Joe Live' on eTV and SABC1; and dominated the airwaves in Gauteng at Metro FM and most recently at Kaya FM. He now leads the Heart 104.9FM Breakfast Show team that includes the equally outspoken Nick Feinberg as sports anchor and traffic anchor Julian Naidoo.

Phat Joe is thrilled to have represented Heart104.9FM and the Mother City by hosting the awards ceremony this year. "The music industry have been fighting for years for freedom of expression and I hope that they will stay true to their word and not sensor me".
