The ABF and Specialised Exhibitions feature at Markex 2011
The ABF (Advertising Benevolent Fund) and Specialised Exhibitions have joined hands to raise industry awareness at Markex 2011. The two companies have agreed on a sponsorship deal which will see the ABF at Markex in Johannesburg and in Cape Town for the first time.
Lynn Chamier, the Exhibition Director of Markex World of Events, has agreed to offer the ABF a free booth in the AdVantage Advertising Village to the value of R8 500.
"There is an enormous amount of synergy between the ABF and the Markex brand and we are sure it will be beneficial for both parties to work towards a common goal of promoting the ABF at these events. We are more than happy to provide the ABF with a platform to promote the outstanding work that it does. We are proud to be able to sponsor such a worthy cause," says Chamier.
Two Markex World of Events take place this year, just two months apart, bringing the best B2B direct marketing opportunity to buyers and sellers of marketing, promotional, eventing and branding goods and services in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. Kicking off in Gauteng at Sandton Convention Centre from 7 to 9 June, Markex World of Events then returns to Cape Town International Convention Centre, for the first time in three years, from 23 to 25 August.
Offering business networking, eye-to-eye contact and preferential sourcing of products and services, last year's Markex in Gauteng saw over 10 400 visitors taking advantage of the opportunity to make direct contact with more than 300 suppliers at the definitive exhibition for the marketing, promotions and event industries.
"Not only has Lynn provided us with the sponsorship of two free stands at Markex, she has gone a step further and agreed to allow the ABF to auction or on-sell two stands at each show in order to raise funds. The value is just under R20 000," says Sharlene Vallance, ABF Executive Committee Member.
"We are really excited about this relationship and the amazing contribution that Lynn and her team have made to the ABF. We intend to maximise on this opportunity by inviting the key stakeholders in the advertising arena to meet with us and discuss how they too can make inroads in lessening the impact that the recession has had on our industry," she adds.
The ABF's stand will be manned by executive committee members and its Cape Town office chairman, Riaan Kriel, who will be available for visits throughout the Cape Town event. It also intends to sell a new package which has garnered a lot of attention from the agencies. It will include a host of events and a corporate donation for R20 000.
"This package makes financial sense," says ABF treasurer Riana Stander. "Instead of a corporate dishing out donations or event fees ad hoc, this will enable them to plan ahead and make a once off donation to the AFB."

Amongst its many contributions, the ABF , in conjunction with Lifeline have a dedicated 24/7 call centre line for people in the Advertising, Media and related industries who need counselling or treatment for stress, HIV/AIDS and substance abuse problems. The ABF also provides study in the field to deserving, underprivileged students with institutions the AAA.
