Meet BET Software's "Dare To Dream" bursary recipients: Class of 2022

This Youth Month, BET Software celebrates its bursary recipients, as part of the Class of 2022. The bursary programme, which is now in its second year, encourages eligible students - who are passionate about ICT - to dare to dream. This year's 56 bursary recipients were chosen from all over South Africa, after a competitive selection process.

BET Software’s bursary programme speaks to the longevity of the company’s CSI work, its commitment to its beneficiaries, and the employment pipeline it is creating.

Michael Collins, General Manager at BET Software, says, “The bursary programme is aimed at not only facilitating students’ studies in ICT, but also at providing work experience through the company’s graduate programme. Once the candidates are finished studying, we absorb them into our grad programme, so that they can ultimately become a part of the BET Team - this is the long-term nature of our programmes. Our vision is to increase the numbers every year.”

BET Software is also proud of two special needs learners, Luqa Zondi from Open Air School, and Mlekeleli Jili from Fulton School For The Deaf, who are this year’s scholarship recipients.

Education is one of the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are an urgent call for action by all countries, developed and developing, to recognise that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies. In line with this, Michael Collins, General Manager at BET Software, adds, “BET Software believes in equal and inclusive education, and through our bursary programme, we are ensuring that this constitutional promise becomes a reality. We hope this support enables these bright young minds to soar to even greater heights. We look forward to witnessing their continued success.”

Thuso Thabo Mohlakoana, a recipient doing the final year of his Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology degree at the Durban Institute of Technology (DUT), says, “My career goal is to become a business intelligence analyst, because I want to use my tech skills to come up with innovative solutions to problems faced by companies. I am thankful for BET Software’s financial support. Growing up in a less privileged community has made me realise the value of education.”

Noluthando Chumbe, another recipient, pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology at the Nelson Mandela University, adds, “I applied for the “Dare To Dream” bursary because of the prestigious company behind it. It is an absolute honour to be part of a family that designs, creates, and feeds on innovation.”
