Impumelelo calls all empowered companies

Black economic empowerment is part of South Africa's economic and business culture. The empowerment framework, with all its attendant policies, initiatives and programmes has changed the way South Africans do business locally; and the way multi-nationals do business within the country.

Further, BEE has set the tone, the very context for investment throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. National reconciliation, cohesion and unity within South African society and polity have formed the empowerment crucible, with the metal of BEE emerging proud and strong: But like all precious metals in the ore, BEE too needs refining in order to attain its highest value. And one of the initial refining processes involves showcasing the work being done by leaders in government and corporate South Africa as the benchmark for empowerment.

How do investors, local and international, navigate South Africa's economic landscape? What is the benchmark for doing business? Who are the key players? Who is driving empowerment across our various economic and industry sectors? And how do you make contact?

Impumelelo: South Africa's Top Empowerment Companies plays a pivotal role in doing just that, while fostering business's understanding of BEE in South Africa, facilitating local and international trade and investment. Moving now into our second decade of freedom, BEE has fast emerged as a fundamental contributor to our sustainable African democracy including social initiatives that hitch a ride on the back of economic empowerment, i.e. Corporate Social Investment (CSI), Small Business (SME) Development, Skills Development and Training and a commitment to the consolidation of our national equity objectives.

Impumelelo contextualises empowerment on an annual basis. Established as the country's definitive record of empowerment and transformation across government and private business sectors, Impumelelo presents an integral showcase of SA's top performing black empowered companies and individuals. In so doing Impumelelo documents, analyses, discusses and celebrates the achievements of BEE through strong editorial, pertinent interviews with key BEE players and by profiling top empowered companies alongside industry's strongest players.

If your business or organization subscribes to the principles of B-BBEE, Impumelelo invites you to participate in our research process. Interested businesses will be researched according to a set of entry criteria, during which key factors such as shareholding, executive management, employment equity and procurement, will be assessed, for possible inclusion in this prestigious directory.

The 2005/2006 Impumelelo, published by Top Companies Publishing, is due for release in the first quarter of 2006.
