JHB Homemakers Expo 2008

The Johannesburg Homemakers Expo, held from 21-24 February 2008, saw some 46 741 visitors experiencing over 650 stands covering 16 000m². With everything from gorgeous gardens to inspiring interiors, anyone looking to discover something new found innovative ideas and latest trends at the biggest and most comprehensive home lifestyle show in South Africa.

All under one roof, visitors were treated to market leading interior and exterior home improvement companies ranging from major fixtures in the home to decor ideas, giving homeowners the opportunity to discuss their needs with industry experts and compare product offerings.

Visitors in pursuit of a blissful bathroom found the Homemakers D-Zine Zone feature area simply irresistible. The latest trends in bathrooms and products from industry leaders were on display. Exhibitors included: Bathroom Boutique, Wise Works, Tapitalia, Vaal Sanitaryware, Wuma, Neumann Sanitary, Shower Haus, Spec Tiles, Mend-a-Bath, Geberit, Jeeves, Bathroom Butler and Furman Glass. In the Homemakers Kidz Rooms feature area, fun and creative decor ideas were showcased including a dreamy baby nursery and rooms for teenagers. Exhibitors included: Bundle Berry, Dream Furniture, Fairy Dust Interiors, Little Box of Spells and Over the Moon. The wall murals were painted by Wall Art.

Pimp my Coffee Table was a quirky décor competition where eleven gorgeously ‘pimped' coffee tables, commissioned by some of South Africa's top designers, were exhibited. The designers included: MSB Design (Desere Strydom and Gavin Boaden), Brass Images (Charles Haupt) Bronze Age (Carol Ponelat), Maarit Tevalinna-Alvarez, Bushfire Design (Greg Gillowey), Joom (Justin Punkett and Megan Craig), Pool Design (Stefan Jacobsz), Liam Mooney, Art Studio (Yvette, Gwen and Elizabeth) and Phil Oosthuizen. The 94.7 Ground Patrol also pimped a coffee table. Visitors looking for the hottest trends in home improvement found the Discover Something New feature area a must. Here the latest trends, ideas and products in home improvement were spotlighted.

Abacus Garden Enterprises walked away with both the overall award for Exhibitor Excellence and the Bond Choice Home Loans ‘Most Innovative Stand' trophy for their awe inspiring garden display.

The gold award winners were; Home Fires (Pty) Ltd, Mazista Tiles, Yolande Coutts Living, Franke Kitchen Systems, Weather Master, First Water Coolers, Spec Tiles, Shower Haus, Tapitalia, Euro Trend, Caesarstone and Easylife Kitchens.

Homemakers Expos are presented in all the major economic areas within South Africa and other similar exhibitions will be hosted in George (3-6 April), Port Elizabeth (24-28 April), Pretoria (8-11 May), Vaal (24-27 July), Cape Town (28-31 Aug), Bloemfontein (25-28 Sept) and Durban (2-5 Oct).
