Why thousands of hospitality professionals will be in Johannesburg from 24-26 June

The Hotel Show Africa 2018 offers networking, learning, entertainment and the opportunity to discover the latest products and services for a whole continent.

Africa’s premier hospitality week is forecast to attract more than 12,000 people to Johannesburg at the end of June.

Why thousands of hospitality professionals will be in Johannesburg from 24-26 June

The Hotel Show Africa 2018 is a major part of Africa Hospitality Week 2018, which runs from 24-26 June at The Gallagher Convention Centre, with 1,000 of products and services for the hotel sector, food and beverage and a centerpiece conferences including The Hospitality Leadership Forum.

More than 90 key industry figures have already agreed to appear at the forum as speakers and panelists during the comprehensive three-day programme. It will cover the future of African hospitality, from the architecture of tomorrow’s hotels to the changing role of the GM in 2018 as well as the real use of technology in today’s hotel.

“We believe this is the most impressive hospitality conference programme offered to date, over three days in this country,” said Christine Davidson, Vice President of organiser dmg events. She introduced The Hotel Show brand to Africa from the Middle East last year and has ensured the conference programme is world class.

“Hospitality is growing quickly across the region supported by governments but it needs to be done properly to ensure everyone benefits from that growth and recognise where increased investment is needed.”

The Hotel Show Africa works with partners including The Federated Hospitality Association of Southern Africa and The Restaurant Association of South Africa. It also has its own Advisory Board made up of key hospitality figures from across the continent. Among the 17 board members are celebrity chef Martin Kobald, Hyatt Hotels engineering director Victor Kershaw, the GM of Sun International Ashwin Jose and FEDHASA CEO Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa.

“This is a key time for the whole hospitality sector in Southern Africa and The Hotel Show 2018 is an essential part of that,” said Davidson. “It’s an opportunity not only to see and discover the new technologies and products, it is an oppoprtunity to meet, network and to learn its direction.”

United Consulting works with international hotel brands and it will be exhibiting at The Hotel Show 2018. CEO Mike Tavares said: “This is the most suitable show for us to get the most exposure and to be visitble to the right people.”

The Sycro Group will also be exhibiting and says it chose the show as a place to “meet loyal clients that have been supporting the company for many years, as well as develop relationships with new.”

It is already one of the country’s leading hotel suppliers - everything from mini kettles and trolleys, to furnishings and shelving.

Alongside thousands of products and a strong conference programme, The Hotel Show Africa is about entertainment too. There is free barista and mixology training allowing visitors to develop skills in two of the hottest drink trends: coffee and liquor.

Visitors can also watch head-to-head chef competitions with teams from the nation’s leading hotels to complete a three-course menu from pre-specified local foods. The Inter Hotel Culinary Cup is organised in fully-equipped kitchens, teams compete against the clock, and each other. The finished food will then be judged and sampled by invited guests.

For more fun, The Housekeepers’ Challenge, first seen at sister event The Hotel Show Dubai, will bring staff from some of the nation’s top hotels to compete against each other with just seven minutes to make a used hotel room ready for new guests.

To support the government objectives to double employment within the sector there is a new forum within the show. JOBSLIVE is a new area on the show floor where potential employers will offer live vacancies and opportunities for students and young professionals wishing to enter or progress within the hospitality and tourism sectors.

The Hotel Show Africa from June 24 to 26 at The Gallagher Conference Centre, Johannesburg. It is the African version of dmg event’s The Hotel Show, which runs successfully in Dubai and Saudi Arabia.
