For the rest of this month, customers can purchase soccer balls, shin guards, goalkeeper gloves, water bottles or socks via the Totalsports online gift registry to donate to the African Passions soccer charity.
African Passions is a community project that gives underprivileged children the chance to play in a professional-style league. In return all they need to do is attend school and improve their academic performances. The motto is work hard, play hard!
“The campaign has done incredibly well to date and we have decided to extend the initiative to show our commitment to changing lives through sport,” said Charmaine Claasens, Head of Marketing at Totalsports. “After all, it takes a whole village to raise a child,” Claasens added.
It was Mandela who said: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.”
By encouraging education through sport, the project keeps hundreds of children engaged, off the street, out of trouble and distracted from those negativities that plague their communities. The reality is that for many of these children these simple soccer tools are luxuries that they will never be able to afford and therefore play without.
There are over 160 items in the registry. To donate, all one has to do is choose an item from the registry, add it to your basket and checkout. The item will then automatically be donated.
