Four ways entrepreneurs can avoid sick days

Dealing with sickness and pain can be a lot tougher on entrepreneurs. Unlike those in regular employment, you can't call up and have a day off sick when you've your own business to run, particularly in the early stages when you may be managing things all by yourself. Unless you have a trusty team you can rely on to keep things going for you whilst you recuperate, chances are your only option is to soldier through. Thankfully, there are several things that you can do to keep sickness and pain at bay whilst you work.
These include:

#1. Visit a chiropractor:

If like many entrepreneurs today you spend much of the working day in front of your computer, this could be leading to all sorts of aches and pains. A good chiropractor will be able to work with you to help relieve you of any aches or stiffness that’s putting you off from working throughout the day. #2. Invest in ergonomic office furniture:

Whether your business office is at home or somewhere else, it’s important to make sure that the furniture you’re using isn’t simply contributing to joint pain by forcing you into a poor posture. If you’re going to be sat at your desk working for the majority of the day, it’s important to have a chair and desk that allows your body to be as well-supported and as comfortable as possible, in the right posture. You can get office chairs that gently support the natural arch of your back, or footrests to help you place your feet down firmly.

#3. Take regular short breaks:

One of the best things about being an entrepreneur is that it’s down to you when you want to go for a break. Take advantage of this and try to take as many regular, short breaks as you can – just a few minutes each hour to take a drink of water, get up and stretch your legs can make a massive difference to your mind-set and the quality of your work. As humans, we’re not designed to concentrate on things for prolonged periods of time – a short change of scenery will help you come back refreshed and perhaps even seeing things from a new perspective.

#4. Be strict about sleep:

Lastly, it can be all too tempting for dedicated business owners to work long into the night simply to make sure that everything gets done. But, doing this too often, or at all, can be seriously damaging for your sleeping pattern, which will send other aspects of your health downhill. Not getting enough sleep can leave you feeling stressed and de-energised, which is never a good combination in business. Instead, try and stick to a schedule that allows for some ‘me’ time in the evenings, delegate tasks to others when needed, and if something can be left until the morning, always let it wait.

Don’t let the stresses of entrepreneurship take their toll on your health!
