Heart FM shuts down broadcast studio for 16 days

Heart FM shuts down broadcast studio for 16 days

Heart FM will shut down its Green Point broadcast studio for 16 days to undertake youth-focused projects across the province in honour of Youth Month. The 16 Days for Youth initiative* journey, which kicks off on the 1st of June 2016 in Vredenburg, will see the radio station broadcast remotely from various locations across the province - with the aim of clothing, feeding, fixing, painting and lending a helping hand to those in need along the way.

The initiative is a spin-off from the station’s #HeartBeats4Youth campaign which started out as motivational talks by celebrities at various schools four years ago. It has since morphed into a 16-day drive to do good within communities with youth focused activities. The aim for 16 Days For Youth is to mobilise communities and raise awareness of what is desperately needed. The frame work of the initiative allows for members of the public to get involved by donating and joining the Heart FM team on the journey.

Heart FM MD Renee Redelinghuys explains the rationale behind the campaign. “The youth of today face enormous difficulties – living conditions, disease, violence and even attending school in some instances. We are not out to solve all these issues but what we are doing is lending a helping hand where we can. We also ask that our Heart Family come on board in assisting us to leave a lasting legacy.”

Heart FM program manager Denver Apollus says the initiative is less about the radio station and more about helping those who need it. “While we are using the station as a platform to raise awareness, the campaign is about telling the stories of others and how they engage in projects that make a difference. Heart FM may have started this initiative but we’d like for our listeners and the rest of the country to adopt it and carry it on. Let’s enable #16DaysForYouth and end it by celebrating Youth Day on 16 June.”

To find out how to get involved and how to join the journey, members of the public are urged to email mf.9401@htuoy.
