FCB Johannesburg presents car to childcare centre

FCB Johannesburg has presented a motor car to Hugh's Haven in Yeoville, the childcare centre the agency has 'adopted' as part of its corporate social outreach programme.

Originally known as The Yeoville Educare Centre, Hugh's Haven was renamed to honour Hugh Begg, who co-partnered the facility with Chaya Fenwick. It provides approximately 80 children from financially and socially disadvantaged back grounds with a safe, constructive and educational environment during the day, as well as after-school care facility for the older children.

The presentation of the car - a Toyota Corolla 130 GLE - was the culmination of months of negotiation and fund-raising work by FCB Johannesburg's CSO Committee and FCBian Gwen Bezuidenhout.

Handing over the keys to the car, FCB Johannesburg managing director, John Dixon, said the agency has been working with Hugh's Haven for two years now and that the committee and staff had contributed time, money and dedication to all the various projects undertaken.

"It gives everyone at the agency great pleasure to see the delight and joy in the children's faces each time we engage with them and, while fundraising was initially not our mandate, we're hoping that this more recent initiative can make a big difference to the lives of the children and assist Chaya in the wonderful work that she does," he said.

Celebrating the hand-over are from left to right (back): Martin Erwee (East Rand Toyota - where the car was purchased), Chaya Fenwick (founder Hugh's Haven), John Dixon (managing director, FCB Johannesburg), and Busi, Mbali, Hope, Rebecca and Silungile from Hugh's Haven; and (front) Gwen Bezuidenhout (FCB Johannesburg) and Sibonohule, and Vicky Rae (FCB Johannesburg) and Donna (she and Sibonohule are also from Hugh's Haven).
