AfriGIS 5th annual Learnership Programme in partnership with MICT SETA and CTU Training Solutions

AfriGIS welcomed ten new candidates at the AfriGIS induction day recently held at the CTU Pretoria Campus. Since its first launch in 2012, the AfriGIS Learnership Programme has been successful in training individuals who have been carefully selected to pursue a career in IT. AfriGIS, in partnership with MICT SETA and CTU Training Solutions, provides a 12-month structured integrated learning programme that consists of theoretical training at CTU (six months) and practical work experience at AfriGIS (six months). Upon completion of the Learnership programme, Learners are better prepared to represent themselves in the ICT sector with an NQF level 5 National Certificate in IT Systems Development.

“More than 3000 applications were received for this Learnership. Following the selection process, ten individuals were chosen to embark on this journey. AfriGIS and MICT SETA have given the learners an opportunity to change their own lives and the future of their families. Now it is up to them to make the most of this opportunity,” added Christa Welthagen, Human Resources Manager of AfriGIS.

The AfriGIS Learnership Programme continues to develop talented young minds by exposing them to IT through knowledge and skillsets that further assists them in their education and experience. AfriGIS offers industry level support to ensure success in the Learnership Programme. Learners are assigned to mentors within AfriGIS who provide empowerment, guidance and advice on their career path. The level of involvement in skills development is important to AfriGIS and every member of our team understands the Industry and environment we work and live in.

There is nothing as fulfilling as following a career that you are passionate about. “Software development is not something you learn and you know it. It changes every day. You need to focus and work hard. We are here to help you to get your set of fundamentals, and get your roots settled in IT. Furthermore, your personality matters at AfriGIS, it is how you get noticed. We pride ourselves on being diverse and working together. Teamwork and communication is important to us,” said CF Haasbroek, Development Manager of AfriGIS.

“We are very excited to have you here and help pave a way for you in achieving a start to your IT career. You need to study hard and be actively involved in the programme every day. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve your knowledge and move forward in life. It takes time, patience, hard work and understanding in completing this programme,” concluded Emmarentia Booysen, Corporate Branch Manager at CTU.

Since inception in 2012, the AfriGIS Learnership Programme has already given 22 learners invaluable experience to kick start their career, 20 of them were successfully placed within industry upon completion, and two are still being assisted in finding employment. We continue to work with our partners, as well as our clients to create jobs for these young individuals. AfriGIS continues to invest and empower as many young under-privileged individuals as possible.
