A shoebox with a difference

Sixty wide smiles lit up the room at Huis van Heerde in Moorreesburg recently, when sixty ‘shoeboxes' of goodies were delivered to the children. The boxes, crammed full of everything from sweets and crisps to practical, but much needed items, like soap, body lotion, deodorant and stationery, were a gift from Moving Tactics in Cape Town.
A shoebox with a differenceThe children, aged between 1 and 18, cared for at the Huis van Heerde ‘safe house' are all vulnerable and in need. Many are orphans, others have been removed from abusive families while some are living with HIV. Despite this, the atmosphere in the home is not one of doom and gloom but rather of hope, love and happiness.

Moving Tactics took on the Huis van Heerde as one of its Corporate Social Investment projects late last year in an effort to alleviate some of the financial burden on the home. Employees at Moving Tactics immediately rose to the “shoebox” challenge with enthusiasm and loads of creativity!

Chris Day, MD of Moving Tactics says, “CSI can no longer be a ‘feel good' donation, but has to be seen as a relevant investment towards social change. This includes taking responsibility for improving the lives of all people in this country. We applaud the work being done by Huis van Heerde and we look forward to a sustained interest in and contribution towards the home. We could see that the ‘shoeboxes' made the children feel really special and valued - the expression on their faces was worth more than any words.”
