Explains Richard Emery, Chief Operating Officer for Oasys Events: "We were contracted to build a temporary terminal at O.R. Tambo International Airport, for the convenience of the soccer teams arriving at the international arrival and departures terminal at the airport. This is the largest temporary terminal structure we have ever built, covering a total area of 3400m2." The marquee is fully air-conditioned and includes eight lounges, 12 bathrooms, a full clinic and medical facility, two press rooms and a South African Police Services section. It is a temporary structure that will remain until the end of the FIFA 2010 World CupTM. Oasys Innovations also supplied decking, generators, furniture, fencing, as well as electrical infrastructure for the temporary terminal.
Charles Brown, Director of PM Africa says that much planning and visualisation went into the design and construction of the marquee and the end result delivered on expectations. "We spent months preparing every detail of the marquee on paper and the construction itself took a number of weeks. But no one on the project team could have imagined how effective the end-result would be. It was a proud moment for everyone involved to stand back and look at a creation which serves only one purpose and that is to welcome international soccer teams to the rainbow nation."
