Sign Africa 2009 showcases latest signage trends

Sign Africa returned to Johannesburg in September after also completing successful shows in Port Elizabeth, Durban and Cape Town. A record-breaking 5013 people attended the Johannesburg leg of the event which was held at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Sign Africa provides suppliers and manufacturers in the signage, printing and graphics and marketing industries with the opportunity to exhibit their latest offerings at the largest exhibition of its kind on the African continent. Says Dyelan Copeland from Practical Publishing, who was involved with arranging the event: “This year we hosted the biggest Sign Africa ever to be seen in Johannesburg, with 108 exhibits taking up 3787m2 of exhibits space. Apart from a large variety of exhibitions, the show also featured talks and presentations by local speakers and international speakers from as far as Guatemala, USA and Holland. Further highlights were live demonstrations, new product launches and on-site training.”

Says Carl Woodland, chief operating officer for Oasys Exhibitions, “We provided 549m2 of shell scheme, 96m of shell scheme walling and 2722m2 of carpeting for this event. We also supplied furniture including registration counters. Lastly, due to the size of some printing machines operating during the exhibition, large electrical supplies had to be installed at various stands.”

Many believe that with South Africa hosting the FIFA Soccer World Cup next year, there will be an increase in the demand for printed advertising and marketing materials and this event provided visitors with the opportunity to make contact with suppliers and start planning with the help of ideas sourced by viewing the latest developments and industry trends.

Continues Woodland, “This show truly displayed the impressive scope of the industry in Africa and demonstrated the talent and abilities of the individuals and companies operating in this environment.”
