Oasys speaks volumes

During October 2007 Oasys Innovations was involved in more than twenty exhibitions and events. Some of these were on behalf of corporate clients in the public and private sector, while most were in support of members of the exhibitions and events industry.

Brian Kennedy, Oasys Innovations Managing Director says: “Some of these assignments were for advertising and public relations agencies who do not have a competence in exhibitions and events, but who offer these services to their clients as part of their total package of services. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that. We are more than happy to support them. In the end we are all members of the communications industry and need to get the job done in the spirit of good partnership. In fact, several of our key account executives come from the agency industry and are therefore familiar with their business processes.”

Assignments for October varied from revamping company reception areas, to the Arts Expo in Hyde Park, the Microsoft exhibition at Sun City, the Machine Tool exhibition at NASREC, Trans Africa at the Durban ICC, the Home Makers Fair in Port Elizabeth and Durban, the AU conference in Durban, the Department of Minerals and Energy conference and exhibition as well as the Botswana Global Expo – to mention a few.

Kennedy says that year on year his company's projects increased by 20%. “In our previous financial year we recorded a turnover of R100 million and we are upbeat about our future growth opportunities, also in terms of our international business with offices in Europe, China and Africa.”

“The chunk of business allocated from company communications budgets for exhibitions, events and projects that improve customer relationship management – which in essence represents assignments for our industry – is outpacing that of other disciplines in the communications mix,” says Kennedy who is also the Chairman of the Exhibition Association of South Africa.

Kennedy concludes: “Our volumes of assignments used to peak around the last quarter of the calendar year. However, this has changed and exhibitions and events now take place all the time. Bookings at well known exhibition and conference centers clearly demonstrate this incidence and the internationalisation of South Africa largely contributed to this performance.”
