AFDA students making waves

The Shadow Boy directed by Justine Puren (left) has been selected for the competition of the 31st edition of the Recontres Henri Langlois, an international film schools festival, which will take place from 5th to 13th of December 2008 in Poitiers, France. The committee chose 62 films among the 1063 received.

Kammakastig Land by Brandon Oelofse and The Cabin by Brynach Day has been retained to be part of the African program of short films which will be screened during the festival.

48 schools from 25 countries from five continents will be represented through 12 programs of films that will be offered to spectators.

It is expected this year 62 films in competition including 12 French films. Program: 28 dramas, eight documentaries and experimental films five. The animated films have never been so numerous, with 21 selected works!

AFDA student film Wins at Appollo Film Festival

AFDA has won the award for "Best South African Short Film" at the Apollo film festival. The film that scooped up this prestigious award was an Honours sand animation called Shadow Boy.

Crystals and clowns success at Lowveld International Film Festival

AFDA dominated this year's festival with eight films selected for screening at this year's Lowveld International Film Festival, formerly known as Innibos International Short Film Festival:

  • Uhambo
  • The Cure
  • Kammakastig Land
  • The Shadow Boy

  • Canaan

Congratulations to the third-year graduation film, Crystals and Clowns directed by Simon Tuit, which won the Best English Local Short Film.

Honours film selected at the 7th International Student Film & Video Festival of Beijing Film Academy

The AFDA Cape Town Honours film, Service Pistol directed by Rio Allen, was officially selected for screening which will be held from November 9th to November 15th.

Service Pistol is a film which glimpses the effects the violent crime in South Africa has on its police officers. The festival will take place at the Beijing Film Academy from the 9th - 15th November 2008.

AFDA Celebrities

Bongani Masondo (Graduated in 2006) currently busy with the second season of Tshisa on SABC 1.

Motlatsi Mafatse (Graduated in 2007) currently busy with the second season of Shooting Stars.

Litha Booi (Graduated in 2007), was on uGugu no Andile on SABC 1 - Township/Modern Shakespeare - Romeo & Juliet with a current AFDA student Lungelo Dhladhla (Production Design) who played Juliet.

Munya, an AFDA Cape Town graduate from Zimbabwe who is currently on Big Brother Africa. Tumi Masemola and Mandla N (Graduated in 2003) own a production company called Black Brain productions, they are currently busy with City Sesla on SABC 1 and they are also part of a music group/band called G.I. (Gang Of Instrumentals).

Keenan Arrison, an AFDA Cape Town graduate, currently stars in the drama Shooting Stars.
